RC XRAY was able to attend the Sunday mains at the second warm up to the 2008 IFMAR 1/8 Scale Buggy Off Road World Championships. The pre-Worlds race was held at The Farm II and the Worlds will be held in Charlotte in September.
If you follow me on Twitter, you were able to get race updates every few minutes. We arrived around 2:00 pm and were able to stay for about 2.5 hours. Here are the highlights.
- It was hot. I think it was 97 degrees. September should be more comfortable.
- Based on the number of races that were scheduled (20+ on Sunday), we guess there were 90 or so drivers.
- Team XRAY was well represented with 4 drivers and all but one of the XRAY 808 buggies made it to the A main. Not too bad.
- The one XRAY driver who didn't make it to the last race had to drop out in the B main final due to technical problems. I wasn't able to find out why.
- The A main final was 60 minutes and included 12 drivers.
- The XRAY drivers finished 5th (Josh Wheeler), 7th (Joseph Quagraine) & 9th (Ryan Lopez). We heard Lopez had a battery problem in the A main.
- Considering Joseph Quagraine was signed by Team XRAY about 2 weeks ago, he did pretty well with his XRAY 808.
- Adam Drake made it to the A main by finishing 5th in the B main and then grabbed an 8th place finish in the final race.
- Renaud Savoya finished 6th overall.

The big tent was right behind the driver's stand and it housed the garage area.

Here is the XRAY part of the garage area.

I just received confirmation this XRAY 808 belongs to Josh Wheeler. Plus the fuel bottle looks like it may have his name on it.
