RC Car Hits 161 MPH at Speed Challenge

The first annual International ISC RC Speed Challenge was held on Saturday, October 4th at the Rockingham Dragway in Rockingham, NC.

The highlight of the day was Nic Case's runs with his fastest at 161 MPH. All speeds were confirmed by two optical speed traps. Here is video of his RC car hitting 155 MPH on his first run.

Nic Case has been doing this for awhile. It doesn't take much searching to find other videos of his past RC top speeds. Here is one from when he hit 134 MPH in 2006 at the Radio Controlled Car Action's First Annual Fastest RC Car Competition. He did it with a brushless NTC3.

XRAY 808 & XT8 Get Carbon Brake Disks

The XRAY 808 and XT8 now have another braking option. XRAY has released ventilated graphite carbon brake disks for their 1/8th scale off-road nitro RC cars. The people over at Team XRAY want you to know one thing about these new brake pads though.

"When using this graphite brake disk, it is necessary to use hardened steel brake pads (#354121) by themselves without Ferodo fibre-style brake pads glued to them."
Not only do these graphite carbon brake pads fit the 808, they are applicable to the entire XB8 line. They fit the XB8 EC, XB8 TQ, XB8 and XB8R

If you need some new brake pads, the graphite carbon versions will cost you about $15. That's only a dollar more than the standard pads (#354110). Here's the part number.

#354111 - Graphite Ventilated Brake Disk - CNC Machined (2)

You can get these new option parts from any XRAY dealer or RC XRAY.

Lightweight Front Middle Shaft for XRAY NT1

Following the announcement of the NT1 lightweight 2-speed shaft, Team XRAY has released the lightweight front middle shaft for the XRAY NT1. You may be asking yourself, "What's the point of this latest option part?" The answer is the same as it has been for most of the parts released lately. The new lightweight front middle shaft is just that, lightweight. This shaft is 50% lighter than the standard version and it reduces rotating mass which XRAY is always trying to do.

If you need to get this for your NT1, it will cost you about $13. This is only a few dollars more than the $9 you would spend on getting the standard shaft (#335710). So if you have to replace yours, go light.

#335711 - Front Middle Shaft - Hudy Spring Steel™ - Lightweight

You can order the new NT1 lightweight front middle shaft from any XRAY dealer or you can get it from us, RC XRAY.

Drive Pin Replacement Tool from HUDY

The XRAY 808 and NT1 both use 3mm pins in their drive shafts. Over time, these pins need to be replaced because they get worn out.

HUDY now offers a drive pin replacement tool for replacing damaged pins. The tool makes it really quick and easy to swap them out and comes with a how-to manual if you need it. You should be able to buy this from any RC America dealer for about $96.

#106000 - Hudy Drive Pin Replacement Tool (for 3mm Pins)

Obviously, if you are replacing worn out drive shaft pins you're going to need replacement pins. XRAY has these for you. They come 10 to a set so they should last you for awhile. Any one of these sets will cost you about $5.

NT1: #106052 - Set of Replacement Drive Shaft Pins 3x10 (10)
#106051 - Set of Replacement Drive Shaft Pins 3x12 (10)
808: #106050 - Set of Replacement Drive Shaft Pins 3x14 (10)

Tire Balancing Station From HUDY

HUDY has released their new universal tire balancing station and, as the name suggests, it fits all standard RC car wheels. This tire tool is important because we all know what an unbalanced tire does to an all-wheel drive RC Car, like all XRAY RC cars. It creates crazy vibrations which hinders your RC car's stability, traction and ability to absorb bumps. This tire tool will also find poorly glued rubber tires or problem with tire inserts.

The HUDY tire balancing station has a wide base which makes it stable for all tires sizes. It can support 1/10th, 1/8th, 1/6th and 1/5th scale wheels. So you know you can use this tire tool on your XRAY NT1, T2'008, XT8 and 808. There are two adapters for the tire balancing station and they match different RC scales. Here are all the part numbers if this is what you need.

#105500 - HUDY Universal Tire Balancing Station
#105510 - Wheel Adapter for 1/8 Off-Road Cars, Truggy & Rally Game
#105520 - Wheel Adapter for 1/10 Touring cars

You can buy HUDY products from your favorite XRAY dealer. If you would like to order from RC XRAY, just send an email to orders@rcxray.com and we can help you out.

XRAY in October Issus of Xtreme RC Cars

XRAY tends to appear in Xtreme RC Cars pretty often. There were several XRAY instances in the August and September issues.

  • Page 20: Inside Line features the new HUDY RC car stands. The two stands are for touring cars and 1/8th scale off-road buggies and truggies. With that said you know they are perfect fits for the XRAY NT1, T2'008, 808 and XT8.
  • Page 22: The Pro-Line Crowd Pleaser 2.0 body for the XRAY 808 is also featured in Inside Line.
  • Page 26: The XRAY NT1 gets a lighter aluminum clutch bell. It has the same strength and durability, but it's about half as heavy as the standard version.
  • Page 30: On the events calendar, I see the Mid America's XRAY Challenge 08 was run September 20-21. It's an on-road race in Jonesboro, AR. I haven't heard any news on the winners yet.
  • Page 33: The article Pack A Lunch in the Quick Tips section features a photo of a guy in an RC America/XRAY t-shirt. I can't identify who it is so let me know if you know who he is.
  • Page 57: The recent 2008 1/8th Buggy Worlds have a pre-race article in this month's magazine. The article is in the In The Dirt section and talks about all of the new buggies that have been released recently just for this race. Of course, the XRAY 808 is mentioned.
"XRAY never sleeps and they've been tweaking the 808 since it came out. We bet you're going to see some new parts being tested. They've got a pretty good team and with a car that actually works on US tracks it might be their year."
I was disappointed to hear Josh Wheeler's tires came unglued which prevented him from making the championship main at the Worlds. He finished 17th while Josh Quagraine was 15th. Wheeler looked really good when we were at the Worlds qualifying.
  • Page 165: At the 2008 Drifting Championship, Karlo Sison is listed as finishing 24th in the Advanced class. I was surprised to see Sison is running an XRAY T1. Going old school. The T1 was released in 2000.
  • Page 194: In Gear lists HUDY's ultimate solder for the 'RC professional.'
If you see an XRAY instance than I missed or have something to add, just let me know.
